Nice & Easy - Sewing Marcy Tilton's New Skirt Pattern

Posted by Susan Liane, The Smuggler's Daughter on 11/9/2014 to Sewing Projects
Sewing Vogue 9060 is a fun and easy project that results in a lovely new skirt.  Marcy Tilton's design is one of those that, although simple, is quite striking.  A joy to sew and a joy to wear.

I sewed a medium and didn't make any alterations except for the waistband.  The pattern includes two options for the waistband, one that is wide and one that is more narrow, but neither one really worked for me.  I just made an ordinary one inch band and enclosed some 3/4 inch elastic.  I have gotten short waisted in middle age and the kind of waistband on this design doesn't sit still.

FYI - Consider sewing a size that is smaller than your usual.  The waist and hips measurements for a medium are much smaller than I am, yet the finished size is fits great.

Rip Torn knit worked out great, but I think that my skirt is more drapey than the photos on the pattern - a more stable knit like a Ponte or a Jersey might be more true to the intended design, but I like how mine turned out and I was happy to wear it today.  To make it more like it looks on the pattern photo, I might use one of the Eileen Fisher Pontes, Tyrian Purple Ponte, Sweet Scarlett, Earthquakes & Aftershocks, or any of the stretch wovens.

I noticed two other bloggers that I follow have written about this pattern.  Check out http://blog.myrnagiesbrecht.com and Communing with Fabric for some more good info on this pattern.
