Have You Ever Made A Dog Bed?

Posted by Susan Liane, The Smuggler's Daughter on 10/27/2015 to Commentary
I am pleased to announce the adoption of “Pumpkin,” a two-year-old Vizsla mix (some people call them Hungarian Pointers) and the sweetest girl you could ever meet. Pumpkin came to me from the County Shelter here is Southern Oregon where she landed after being picked up as a stray. It is so hard to imagine anyone just letting her go - but irresponsible pet owners are a subject for another blog.

After falling madly in love with Pumpkin, this blogger immediately started thinking about sewing for dogs - something I have never done before. You know I really love someone if I am willing to sew for them. Most people I know will simply never experience that privilege.

Right now she is sleeping on the floor next to my bed on an old blanket. But I feel like she needs a dog bed that will match my decor in just the right way. (Please see my early blog about the table linens for reference.) Ilse of the “Sew-It-Love-It” blog points out that pet accessories can get very expensive, and certainly, I have experienced a bit of sticker shock when I went to look for dog treats, bowls, toys, leashes, etc. Clearly, there are plenty of dog owners out there with disposable income. (Not my situation.)

When I went looking around the internet for dog bed sewing patterns, I stumbled across patterns for a variety of other canine items. And, I came across a few websites that seem like great resources for the sewing pet owners among us.

http://www.sew-it-love-it.com/sewing-patterns-for-dogs.html This site provides sewing instructions for a variety of canine items like collars, clothes, toys, etc.

http://www.mimiandtara.com This site provides patterns for dog clothes, costumes, harnesses, sanitary pads for female dogs, etc. It is clear that Mimi really does love Tara.

http://missdaisydesigns.com This site has a wide variety of patterns for costumes, clothing and even swimwear for your best friend.

Right now I need to concentrate on being the best mom possible to Pumpkin and she seems quite happy for the time being, just to be next to me. But this winter, I feel pretty sure that she is going to need a couple of new jackets.

If you have any great dog-related sewing projects, I would love to see them. And please follow me on Bloglovin by clicking on the button at the top right hand side of this blog.  Thanks!
