In Southern Oregon we get long sunny days during the summertime and even if it gets a bit hot, the temperature drops during the evenings, so the heat isn't unbearable. This weather has made me want to sew some summer dresses because pants feel like too much to wear and when I went looking for patterns to inspire me, I noticed Vogue 8975, a darling knit dress designed by Marcy Tilton.

Apparently I'm not the only one who has noticed this pattern - rumor has it that it has been a top seller since the last Vogue book came out.
I'm not surprised by the popularity of this pattern. V8975 is cute, interesting and kind of challenging. Marcy has been delivering consistently interesting designs in the last several years and I always look forward to what she will be doing next.
I sewed the dress with a knit fabric Southern Skies - Blue Knit that is a gorgeous blue color, but it has a little too much body for the pattern design. I think I would have been happier with a more drapey knit fabric. I will probably sew this pattern again soon, and I'm considering Eco-Marbled Sunshine Knit which I think is better suited to the design. When I finished the dress I decided that it needed some embellishment to break up all the blue, so I decided that I would sew the little jacket, and that I would paint on the pocket area of the dress. The pattern that I painted is a simpler and larger version of the print of the knit I chose for the jacket - which is the J-Crew Wild Striped Knit. The jacket is still a work in process but it has some great details that don't show up too well in the photos on the pattern front. Be sure to read the instructions carefully on this one. I did not think that the instructions were 100% clear - but maybe that comes with the territory when you are sewing interesting designs. Some of the reviews on pattern review.com were very helpful to me, so I suggest that you take a look at those if you are considering this pattern.
And yes, I am a wild, screaming, crazy Bruce fan. So enjoy listening to the song, in the cool of a summer evening light. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8PB1a1c9zA&feature=kp
