Designed by Katharine Tilton, Vogue 8793 is a pattern for a long-sleeved pullover top with a double collar that uses a zipper as a design element. This is a fun and interesting pattern because of the way it uses three different knits to create an overall striking garment.
The pattern calls for using one fabric as a front and sleeve, another as a back, sleeve, cuff and collar, and the third as a second collar and cuff. Of course, you are the ultimate designer (with all due respect to the wonderful Katharine Tilton) and part of the fun is playing with three knits to decide which ones to use where on the garment.
I wanted to use the new very cool fabric Face for a Photo Shoot
and found some stripes and dots in my personal stash to complement it. Because of how much I love the "Face" fabric, I decided to use it on both the front and back, then use the other knits as two different sleeves and cuffs, as well as the two different collars. I probably wouldn't have done this with a lot of other fabrics, but this one just demanded to be prominent from each view.
All of these knits sewed up easily and I love the end product. When you are choosing your fabrics, you may want to make sure that those you use for the collar are a bit lighter weight than the body fabric because there is a lot of weight with the double collar and the zipper component. I'm going to wear this tonight to an ASG meeting and I can't wait to wear it to Puyallup!
What a cool design and what a creative approach you took. It really looks like a special piece.
Ack!! I love this!
I am so kicking myself for not jumping on that face fabric when FM had it. Darn it. It is as fabulous as I'd imagined!
This is one of the coolest fabrics I've worked with in a long time. I love the top I made and I always get lots of compliments on it. At the moment I am writing this, I still have 3.25 yards of it.
