If you are loving the new Fall Patterns from Vogue as much as I am, you are probably already sewing for cooler weather. It struck me that they were showing some interesting designs and perhaps taking some welcome chances in this collection.

I love dresses and I especially loved two of the dress patterns. It seems that everyone agrees with me about V9268 by Kathryn Brenne, as it has been the best seller so far and that it is even sold out in most stores and online. (Congratulations Kathryn!) It has been so nice to see what Kathryn Brenne has produced for the last few seasons. This one is easy, fun and striking, so if you do happen to find it, it will make a nice project for a sweater dress or some other knit.
This pattern has short or long sleeves and it is important to work with a fabric that is drapey, not too crisp or stable, to get the effect along the sides.
The other dress that would be so fun to sew is from Tom & Linda Platt, V1555. This dress needs a stable knit so any of the Ponte knits will work well. The pattern that I plan to sew is Sandra Bettina's raincoat, V1564, a pattern with some cool details. I love the photo of this one (at left) and its very nice clasps and tabs. I think I'm going to go to the hardware store to find some unique and industrial looking closures. The sewing won't be too difficult on this one and you will end up with a great raincoat - a bit difficult to imagine in this heat of summer.
What do you think about Vogue's new fall patterns?
