Does it seem to you like the world is suddenly full of sewing retreats, conferences, workshops, vacations, etc.? Well, it does to me. So how in the world do you pick which one or ones to attend?
The one that has caught my eye is Camp Workroom Social which is coming up this October 16-19. What makes Camp Workroom Social different? Held at a YMCA camp in the Catskill Mountains, it is sort of like a fusion of summer camp and sewing education in a non-competitive environment.
The description says Camp Workroom Social is a "four-day sewing retreat for adults, featuring contemporary experts in apparel sewing and style." Right there a couple of things stand out for me:
1) The focus is on apparel sewing! Yahoo, this is not about crafting or quilting, but it is about sewing clothing.
2) It features contemporary experts! Now this is exciting because the lineup of instructors includes fabulous young talent like Melissa Watson of McCall's Patterns, Heather Lou from Closet Case Files, and Christine Haynes of Christine Haynes Patterns. Living proof that sewing is not just for older women.
At Camp Workroom Social you will get to immerse yourself in an encouraging educational environment, make sewing friends and take part in camp-inspired activities like zip lining, hiking and karaoke. Sounds like heaven to me.
Camp Workroom Social is produced by Workroom Social in Brooklyn, New York, a boutique sewing studio owned by Jennifer Wiese. Jennifer is a designer who loves to share her expertise in sewing and she teaches home sewists in her well-equipped studio, that is when she isn't at camp.
