How We Work
The Smuggler's Daughter is a secure online fabric store. You can shop here 24 hours a day. We do not have a physical storefront.
We understand that buying fabric online can be challenging and many new stores have come online. We strongly recommend that you check to see if the online store has a secure status before you provide your credit or personal information. This is one advantage of shopping at The Smuggler's Daughter.
Our Fabric Inventory
We acquire fabrics from lots of different sources and our inventory includes leftover fabric from designers and manufacturers. We carry a wide variety of fabric types, both natural and synthetic, knit and woven. We are always looking for more fabrics that are made from sustainable materials and we love to stock things that are a bit different, meaning fabrics you might not find in chain stores at your local mall. We carry decorating fabric, but we emphasize fabrics for garment sewing.
Most of the fabrics on this site are only available in limited quantities. Most of the time when we run out of a certain fabric, we will not be able to simply re-order it. For that reason, we suggest that you make sure that you are purchasing enough yardage for your project at the time of the initial purchase. It may not be there if you want to buy more yardage in the future.
All orders are subject to availability. We do our best to keep our inventory records up to date, but there is a small possibility that an item could sell out before your order is fulfilled. If that occurs, we will contact you by phone or email to make alternative orders or to refund your purchase.
If you need fabric swatches, we will gladly send them to you for fabrics that we have at least 8 yards in inventory, with a limit of four fabrics at a time. But please be aware that our quantities are limited and by the time you get samples and want to place an order, we may not have any more of the fabric left.
Ordering in Fractions of a Yard
Unlike a number of other online fabric stores that sell in whole yards only, we cut and sell fabric in increments down to a quarter of a yard. A minimum of a quarter of a yard is required and you can order in any quarter yard increments (like 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75 and so on) That means that when your pattern calls for 2.25 yards, for example, you can purchase just that amount. This is not the case for ordering on most online fabric stores that only accept amounts in whole numbers, thereby forcing the customer to order more than they necessarily need. The fact that we accept fractional quantities is a true advantage to shopping with The Smuggler's Daughter.
All fabric is priced by the yard unless otherwise noted in the product description. We have some end cuts that we sell by the piece and panel prints that we sell by the panel, and we note this on the product description. We do not accept fractional orders of panels and end cuts.
We make every effort to be accurate in product descriptions. But please be aware that many observations are subjective and suggestions about use are just suggestions. We cannot take responsibility for choices that don't work out well for your intended outcome. Sometimes design missteps are just part of the creative process in sewing and garment construction.
Would you like to consult with someone?
Talking with other people who love to sew is one of the funnest things we get to do! We would be happy to discuss your project over the phone, so please call (541) 500-1798 if you have any questions or if you'd just like to get another perspective on a technique or button choice.
We fulfill orders and ship them out five days a week, Monday through Friday. If you make a purchase before 6:00pm PST on Monday through Thursday, we will ship it on the following business day. If you make a purchase on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, we will ship it on the following Monday.
We reserve the right to select the shipping method that is best for our customers at the time of shipping. That means that if we are informed of a better delivery time or better price at the time we ship, we will select the method that offers that advantage to our customers.
Please note that if you would like your order to be shipped to a post office box, we will use the US postal service.
Due to changes that can be made by the postal service and other shipping organizations, rates may change without notice, and this is out of our control.
If you are located within the United States, we generally use the US Postal Service or UPS Ground. Please note the shipping costs that are calculated during checkout. If you need something quicker than standard turnaround times, please note this on your order and we will work to accommodate your schedule.
We have customers outside of the United States and ship to international locations on a regular basis. If you are located outside of the US, we have shipping methods with the US postal service and with UPS. We will always look for the method that provides the best price and service for your location. Please be aware that there may be delays in customs at the destination country and unfortunately, this is out of our control.
Policy on Returns
We want you to be pleased with your purchase, so you may return fabric free of charge within 30 days of your original purchase date. This means that the returned merchandise must be in our hands within 30 days of the original purchase. You are responsible for the shipping costs associated with a return, unless the merchandise is defective or if the order was incorrect. We will refund the amount of the original purchase, not the shipping costs. Exceptions - We cannot accept fabric returns if the fabric has been cut, washed, ironed, damaged or otherwise altered. We cannot accept returns after the deadline of 30 days after the original purchase. Finally, all sales of marked down fabrics are final.
